Vale Treatments
We consider ourselves experts in care for before, during and after childbirth. Here is our roundup of some of the best treatments to help you make the most of this wonderful stage in life. All treatments are available at The Vale Practice with daytime, evening and weekend available.
Nutrition
When planning a baby both partners should eat a balanced nutritious diet for a healthier conception, fertilization and foetus. The less toxic the body the less unpleasant side effects to the actual pregnancy. Our nutritionist does an in depth analysis of your individual needs and designs a programe to suit you.
Homoeopathy
Homœopathy is ideal to take during pregnancy, labour and the post-natal period because it is non-toxic, non-addictive and does not produce harmful side effects. Homœopathy can also gently help relieve any anxiety or physical discomforts which occur before the birth. During labour Vale Homœopaths can supply you with a Birth Kit to use during labour to help with pain relief and any other symptoms which arise. Post-natally homœopathic remedies can help promote a rapid physical recovery from the birth and can safely be used to help solve any problems which come up for mum or baby.
Osteopathy
Osteopathic treatment can be extremely beneficial during and after pregnancy. Osteopathy can help prepare the body for the physical changes such as; nausea, vomiting, heartburn, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, aches and pains as well as labour itself. Prenatal treatments adjust the position of both baby and the mother's pelvis potentially facilitating a less complex, and less painful birth. Post-natally both mother and child are treated, dealing with the after effects of birth and the postural and emotional aspects of a new life style in the mum and most childhood complaints.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an effective treatment that can be used before, during and after your pregnancy. It is particularly effective at treating problems like nausea and vomiting, heartburn, breech presentation, and where the baby is overdue as an ‘induction’ treatment. Acupuncture can also be used routinely from week 36 onwards as a pre-birth treatment to prepare the body for labour. This helps to reduce labour time and create a more efficient labour. Research has shown it also minimizes the need for medical intervention.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage boosts your circulation, increasing levels of oxygen and nutrients to both you and your baby. This provides your baby with better nourishment and helps you feel more energetic and less fatigued. While it soothes and relaxes you, lowering your stress levels and enabling you to sleep better and more deeply it also helps to reduce swelling in legs, ankles and hands, making you feel more comfortable.
Hypnotherapy
Hypno Birth is a gentle approach that helps you remain mentally in control throughout the birth experience. Whether you choose to have your baby at home or in hospital you can use the relaxation techniques, guided imagery, breathing exercises and practice self-hypnosis. You can learn how to help your body release endorphins, your very own natural pain relievers, as you remain calm and relaxed and look forward to meeting your baby. The good news is if you go with the experience instead of fighting it, you and the baby can work together, feeling comfortable and completely in control. Then giving birth becomes the wonderful experience that nature intended it to be.
Medicinal Herbs
Herbs can be advised for a healthy pregnancy to strengthen and tone the muscles of the uterus. Herbs are prescribed for relaxing and reducing pain during childbirth, whilst making contractions more effective. Herbs can prepare and support the body from the second trimester onwards. In the last few weeks, more powerful herbs are used to prepare the uterus further. Post pregnancy herbs can be used in their full capacity helping repair any damage, stimulate the flow of breast milk, balance hormones and restore the tissue. Babies can also benefit from herbs, gentle prescriptions can act very powerfully. To prescribe these herbs a short consultation is taken in order to ensure the correct combination and dose.
Reflexology
Reflexology as a general balancing treatment can be used throughout pregnancy to help promote and maintain a healthy body and mind. Using pressure points on the feet reflexology helps with stress, anxiety, digestive problems (such a constipation) and swollen ankles and legs. Reflexology also plays an important role during the birth especially when overdue as it stimulates oxytocin which starts uterine contractions.
